Bass fishing can be extremely fun and challenging at the same time with great rewards. If either fishing for small mouth bass or large mouth, selecting the right fishing rod gear will be beneficial. Although many say small mouth bass tastes a lot better than large mouth, I prefer the fight of a large mouth bass on my selected fishing rod.

What to look for in a bass fishing rod?

Frist see what you can afford, select a range (eg. $100-$200) or whicheveryour price range may be. Remember not all expensive fishing rods will catch you fish easier. Establish if you will be fishing from land or boat, generally speaking if you will be fishing from land you should get a longer bass fishing rod (6.5 feet to 7 feet) recommended. If this will be your first fishing rod, it won't be the last. You generall have to feel out the fishing rod, sometimes a shorter and more flexible rod will benefit you more. Each fishing rod is operated differently by each person fishing, so the next fishing rod you will buy may be totally different.

- Length

Action categories:
Extra Fast: Tend to bend near the top of the blank
Fast: Tend to bend in the upper portion 25-35%
Moderate: Tend to bend near the middle
Slow: This rod generally bends through out

These are the general steps which you should consider when selecting a fishing rod. Personally I would select a 6.5 feet spinner fishing rod with a extra fast action type.
